Same Reality, Different Perceptions
Person A is in a seven-story apartment. Person A quickly jogs down the stairs with two others, reaching the ground level with little fuss. Outside, the scene is relatively calm; next door hotel guests are in their hurriedly thrown-on clothes, a few social media opportunists are filming their two minutes of fame.
Meanwhile, Person B is in a large hospital. Chaos erupts and the scene is a little different here; patients in wheelchairs, some still in their beds, others clutching oxygen tanks. Nurses and security guards are trying hard to restore order.
Miles away, Person C, in another country, sends a concerned WhatsApp message: “Hey guys! All okay?”
Same event. Two perspectives emerge.
This happens in teams every day. People experience the same project, the same meeting, even the same conversation, yet walk away with completely different takeaways. Some feel excited, others anxious. Some see opportunity, others risk.
As a leader, our role isn’t really to make everyone see things the same way, but to acknowledge those perspectives and bridge the gaps.
How do you make space for different perspectives while building a cohesive, high-performing team?
A High-Performing Team Tool
Why would a high-performing team need a personality assessment tool? That’s what we asked ourselves last month while running an Insights Discovery workshop for a multinational, multicultural, hybrid team, a team that was exceeding expectations.
Here’s what we discovered:
- They wanted to know each other beyond their titles.
- They wanted to leverage their differences.
- They needed a common language.
Because even the best teams can go from good to exceptional when they understand the ‘why’ behind their dynamics.
What tools do you use to build team emotional intelligence?
The 3Cs Executive Presence Framework
“I appreciated learning the 3 Cs framework and how interconnected they are. When we identify a gap in one area, we can make adjustments to strengthen it.”
That’s what one participant shared at the end of our program.
The 3Cs framework is a simple yet powerful way to assess leadership readiness. Here is a free assessment checklist you can use immediately. You can even adapt it for peer evaluations. Let us know if you’d like a customised version for your team.
15-Day Challenge for HR Professionals
This month, a post from Wouter Durville really stood out. He’s put together 15 bite-sized learning resources for HR professionals; one for each day. We’re not sure how he curated this list, but the effort behind it must be impressive.
If you’re an HR professional, it’s worth taking a look. You might find something valuable!
TikTok as a Persuasion & Influence Trainer
We’re back on TikTok after taking breaks here and there. It’s been harder than we expected, but growing on any social platform teaches you a lot about influence.
GaryVee is someone who does this really well. While running his businesses, he shares his daily life online with over 50 million followers.
What makes him stand out is his omni-platform strategy; the guy’s active on more than 10 platforms almost every day.
We enjoy his talks and have tried some of his advice ourselves.
Here’s a quick 8-minute video about his social media approach:
Freedom Writers: A Lesson in Impactful Learning
If you like movies that inspire you to take action, here’s a must-watch. It’s based on a true story about a teacher who used different teaching methods to help 150 teenagers from ethnically diverse backgrounds during a time when racial tensions were high in America.
As trainers and facilitators, this movie deeply resonated with us. It shows what learning and growth can look like when done well. We were so moved that we wrote a LinkedIn post about it recently.
One scene that gave goosebumps was when a student read his poem called “I am Home.“
This poem matters because it shows one of the main messages of the film: education and understanding can create spaces where people feel truly seen and valued, no matter what they’ve been through.
Bangkok Shook
Some moments remind us how fragile life is. The recent earthquake was one of them.
Seeing the stories people shared was heartbreaking, especially for the workers trapped in the Chatuchak building. Our thoughts are with them and others who lost loved ones.
In times like these, we’re reminded of what truly matters; the connections we share and how we support each other through unexpected challenges.
We hope you find kindness, comfort, and mental strength to go on.
