Hybrid Collaboration: 5 Lessons from our own experience

Can you see where we are?

Over the past month, we’ve been collaborating with a global partner to co-create new L&D programs — one of them is in the list above.

We can completely empathise with the challenges teams working acrosstime zones, cultures, and working styles encounter.

Here are five lessons we’ve learned from our own experience:

1. Start with Clarity

Agree upfront on what needs to be achieved, by when, and what success looks like. For us, the outcome wasn’t a fixed product, it was a shared discovery, where the final result was better than what either of us had imagined at the start. As the saying goes, together we’re more than the sum of our parts.

2. Prioritise When to Compromise

We all bring in our own experiences, perspectives, and ways of working. There were times when one solution felt better in our heads ,but collaboration often means choosing what works best for the team, not just ourselves. The key is knowing when to stand your ground and when to let go.

3. Practise Patience & Perspective-Taking

What feels like slow decision-making to one person might feel like thoughtful consideration to another. A small shift in perspective can turn frustration into understanding.

4. Make the Implicit Explicit

Don’t assume others know what you’re thinking. Whether it’s response times, preferred communication channels, or decision-making styles, say it out loud. Clear expectations make collaboration much smoother.

5. Invest in Relationships

One of the biggest game-changers in our partnership was the time we spent getting to know each other as people, not just professionals. Understanding our own Colour Energies and each other’s helped us leverage our differences rather than get frustrated by them.

Hybrid working isn’t going anywhere. The better we understand ourselves and each other, the better we’ll work together.

What do you think? 😊

How we’re Adding More Value to our Workshops

Time is often the biggest constraint for our clients, especially hybrid multinational teams meeting in Bangkok for their L&D events.

To help them make the most of every minute, we’ve recorded a 25-minute e-learning course for participants to complete beforehand. This small shift frees up valuable time in the workshop to focus on what really matters:

  • Discussing the practical application of the model
  • Building rapport trust, and psychological safety
  • Co-creating actionable plans for teams and individuals
  • Engaging in fun, interactive activities that strengthen team bonds

Slightly off our marks; fully in the moment.

What excites us (and them) is creating the kind of conversations that help teams move forward together by the end of the workshop.

Are We Living Our Values?

Amazon leaves an empty chair in meetings to represent the customer. Zappos Family of Companies pays new hires up to $4,000 to quit if they’re not fully committed to its culture.

Simple actions like these show whether company values are truly lived or a piece of decor on the wall.

At a recent event, thanks to Tareef Jafferi’s powerful presentation, we learned that assessing value alignment can be as simple as asking three questions.

Take Excellence, for example:

  1. When was the last time you actively sought feedback on your work?
  2. What did you do differently this month to raise the quality of your work?
  3. What skills are you developing right now to improve how you deliver your work?

According to Reef’s research, the average eNPS score across 350 Thai organisations is 0 or below*. A sign that many teams still struggle to turn values into daily behaviours.

UPCOMING

Episode 2 of our podcast is coming soon!

To our fellow readers who share this journey with us whether you’re in L&D, a leader in your organization, or an entrepreneur striving for growth

We hear you, we feel you, and we know you’ll love this quote as much as we do:

If you deliberately plan to be less than you are capable of being, then I warn you that you’ll be deeply unhappy for the rest of your life. You will be evading your own capacities, your own possibilities. – Abraham Maslow

May we continue to support and uplift each other in this community.
